Your insurance will state that you can bill your insurance for couples therapy. However, this is an ethical issue. To bill your insurance for couples therapy, I have to identify one partner out of the couple as the identified patient or the client. This automatically creates an ethical dilemma as the relationship between the couple is my client, not one partner over the other. Once an identified patient has been chosen for the couple, I have to provide a diagnosis for that partner and create a treatment plan specifically designed to address that diagnosis. Therefore, couples therapy would be designed to reduce one partner’s anxiety, not to create a safe and secure bond between partners. This is a major ethical issue and does not represent what occurs in couples therapy. Thus, this becomes a legal issue if my legal documentation is written to appease insurance requirements rather than reflecting the work in couples therapy.
There is no specific timeline for therapy. The length of treatment depends on the client’s willingness to be open and honest in services and how quickly they engage in ART. Treatment goals will continue to be assessed throughout services.
I work with adult men and women over the age of 18 and couples.
I am available to meet in person or online. You can decide which works best for you and request that modality. You can also engage in a hybrid of in person and online.
